WOODBRIDGE, VA - Prince William County Police are trying to track down a man accused of reaching into a bedroom window and grabbing a 12-year-old girl as she slept.
It happened around 3:30 Sunday morning in the 1400 block of Horner Road in Woodbridge.
The girl's screaming sent the intruder running, but neighbors fear he may appear outside their home next.
Police canvassed the neighborhood with a K-9 after the crime and will stay on the look-out. They're going door-to-door alerting neighbors of the burglary and urging them to stay on the look-out.
"You just get really paranoid knowing something like that happens," said 18-year-old Elder Espina.
He and his brother are having trouble sleeping after their neighbor was awoken from a dream Sunday night to a nightmare.
"Last night, every noise I would hear, I was like, 'did you hear that'" said Espina referring to a conversation he had with his brother. The pair share a bedroom with windows on the first floor.
"Now I think twice before I go to sleep and I check if the windows are locked or not," said 16-year-old Davi Gamez.
Luckily no one was hurt Sunday and nothing stolen.
"It's just scary," said Leticia Miranda.
Parents like her are doing everything they can to protect their children.
"I was thinking about cameras a while back, now I think I will have to do that," she said. She's also installing double-locks.
The victim was unable to get a good description of the suspect.
