Laurence Einuis, Fairfax band teacher, arrested for allegedly soliciting minors

SPRINGFIELD, Va. (WJLA) - A West Springfield High School band teacher has been arrested for allegedly soliciting a minor.

Laurence Einuis, 53, of Springfield, was arrested by Fairfax County police detectives on Thursday and charged with using an electronic device to facilitate certain offenses involving children.

Police said their investigation began Monday after Einuis was accused{ } of engaging in inappropriate conversation with a 14-year-old boy. The boy was reportedly not harmed.

Einuis was arrested at West Springfield High School without incident and transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

{ }A major concert that was scheduled to be recorded here in at West Springfield High School later that night was abruptly canceled, and the school community remains stunned.

Our ABC7 cameras were rolling as Fairfax County Police seized evidence from the teacher’s Springfield home – including a computer. Einuis' wife would not speak with us.

"It's shocking as a parent...I have three sons at this school, so it's disturbing," said parent Carolyn Glassman.

Some at the school told us that Einuis' students are devastated.

"A lot of them trust him a lot...they look up to him, so it's kind of shaking their whole world," said student Liam Mazejka.

Off-camera, a student told us that Einuis sometimes made inappropriate jokes and comments in class, and since his arrest, the principal has sent a letter home to parents saying in part:

"This is an unfortunate episode and certainly is not indicative of the wonderfully talented and professional staff we have assembled at West Springfield High School."

Although the allegation is troubling, many told us they will wait for the justice system to take its course.

"If anything, it may have been taken the wrong way because a lot of the teachers are really close to the students -- especially band," said student Jason Arquette.

Fairfax County Police are asking anyone with information about this allegation or others, to step forward.
