A man with ties to Fairfax and Loudoun counties who got away from authorities during a Wednesday car chase in Mississippi is being sought in connection with multiple crimes, police say.

The Loudoun County Sheriff's office is joining in a nationwide manhunt for 22-year-old Joseph S. Schrotz, who is wanted on auto theft and firearms charges, among others.

Police in Mississippi were led on a 25-mile chase by Schrotz in a car reported stolen out of Loudoun County, officials say. The 2009 Dodge Caliber was reported stolen from Chantilly on Tuesday. He was able to flee the area on foot after the chase and has not been caught.

When authorities searched the car, they found an AR-15 rifle and two handguns, one a .40-caliber and the other one a 9 mm. Those guns were also reported stolen from a car on Ponderosa Drive in Chantilly on the same day.

Charges are pending in both Loudoun County and Mississippi. Anyone with information on Schrotz's whereabouts is asked to contact detectives at (703) 777-0488 or Crime Solvers at (703) 777-1919.
