Hostage hoax prompts huge police presence, evacuations at University of Maryland

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (WJLA) - The University of Maryland's Main Administration Building was evacuated Wednesday afternoon after a phone call reported a phony hostage situation.

Campus police told ABC 7 News the call came in around 3:30 p.m., prompting a huge police presence and the evacuation of the building to search for suspects or injuries. Nothing was found.

By about 4:10 p.m., police had cleared the scene.

Police are still investigating the phony phone call.
