FREDERICK, Md. (WJLA) - Frederick County police have arrested a caregiver accused of abusing and assaulting on several occasions a 92-year-old woman with dementia she was hired to care for.
Police arrested Terry Freland, 58, of Frederick, on Thursday, and charged her with 22 counts of second-degree assault and one count of vulnerable adult abuse.
Police said their investigation indicated that Freland had been hired by the victim's daughter in December.
"In the last few months, the daughter began observing injuries on her mother," police said in a statement. "Subsequently a hidden video camera was purchased in order to observe Freland interacting with her mother."
The camera was secretly put into place in the victim's home earlier this week on July 9.
"That same evening, after Freland left the home, the [victim's] daughter reviewed the video, which showed Freland verbally and physically abusing her mother," police said.
Freland was arrested Thursday and is currently in custody in Frederick County. The Sheriff's Office is continuing to investigate.
Anyone with any information regarding Terry Freland and the private care she provides to members of the community are encouraged to call Det. Joseph McCallion at 301-600-1022.
