Former youth softball coach arrested on 34 charges related to child sex assaults in Va.
CULPEPPER, Va. (ABC7) —
A former youth softball coach was arrested on 34 charges related to sexual assaults against children in Orange County, Virginia stemming from a probe in 2016.
Cathy S. Rothgeb, 57, was charged on seven counts of object sexual penetration, seven counts of forcible sodomy, eight counts of indecent liberties with children, eight counts of cruelty to children and four counts of aggravated sexual battery, according to Virginia State Police.
Police say Rothgeb turned herself in on Oct. 13.
In the summer of 2016, an investigation began after a female victim told authorities about alleged sex abuse while Rothgeb served as a volunteer softball coach in Orange County.
According to Virginia State Police, Rothgeb worked as a youth softball coach with Orange County High School. She also coached youth recreational leagues as well as travel teams in Orange County, Spotsylvania County and the Virginia area between the 1980s and early 2000s.
