(WJLA) - John LaDue, 17, sits in a juvenile detention center after police thwarted what they called an elaborate killing spree.
LaDue's plan was reportedly to kill his family members, start a diversionary fire in rural Waseca to distract first responders, and then travel to the Waseca Junior and Senior High schools.
There, police say that LaDue planned to murder as many people as possible by setting off numerous bombs during the lunch hour and killing school resource officers, as well as other students and staff. He also planned to hide the bombs near water fountains.
The alleged plot came to light after a nearby resident saw a suspicious male enter a storage unit and close the door - she immediately called police. Later, officers found LaDue inside.
"I can't believe it. It's shocking, completely. I wouldn't have guessed it at all," said neighbor Bailey Root.
Ryan Lano taught LaDue guitar, and said he was a gifted student who made a video last year of himself playing:
"Only adjective I can come up with is I'm shocked at the information."
