Man dies after shooting near D.C. elementary school

A man was shot and killed near the Benjamin Orr Elementary School in Southeast Friday morning, D.C. police report.

The school was put on lockdown.

According to police, Steven Edward Stewart Jr., 33, of Southeast D.C., was fatally shot in the 2200 block of Minnesota Avenue some time before 9 a.m.

Stewart was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, police say.

According to police, the shooting had nothing to do with the elementary school and none of the children were injured during the incident.

A lookout was issued for a black man wearing a black skully and "last seen running towards 19th Street."
