Cousin of Annapolis mayor charged in robbery and shooting

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Authorities say a cousin of the mayor of Annapolis has been charged with attempted first-degree murder in a robbery and shooting.

Annapolis police say 24-year-old Sawas Pantelides and 26-year-old Maurice Hall were charged Thursday with attempted first-degree murder, armed robbery and assault. Both are being held without bond.

Police say a man was approached by two men on Jan. 20 and one pointed a gun at him and demanded his belongings. As the man fought the second man, who displayed a knife, police say he was shot multiple times and ran. Police say their investigation linked Savvas Pantelides and Hall to the incident.

Andre Pantelides, the brother of Mayor Mike Pantelides' father and campaign team member, says he was shocked by his son's arrest. A city spokeswoman declined to comment.
