(WJLA) - Crime scene tape on the sidewalk marks where a mid-afternoon crime took place next to a public library and a playground – a woman was carjacked on Wednesday in broad daylight.
Lee Foster knows firsthand how crime is infiltrating her Chevy Chase neighborhood. Her home was recently burglarized, and now this series of carjackings:
"I'm really wary," she says. "And now I'm even more wary about it. I do see a lot of police officers around here so I think they're trying...but it's not working."
Four carjackings have taken place since mid-January in less than one square-mile area in Northwest Washington and Chevy Chase, Maryland. In one case, a woman on Runnymede Place was victimized twice.
Longtime residents don’t know what it will take to stem the violence:
"I think people are getting desperate. I don't know if it's the economy. I don't know if it's the drugs...I think that needs to be figured out."
According to the MPD, a suspect was arrested on Wednesday in connection with multiple carjackings and robberies that occurred in the Second, Fourth and Fifth Districts.
