The April 17 tax deadline has arrived and a number of post offices in the Washington region will be open later to assist tax-payers will mailing last-minute returns.

This year, the IRS postponed the deadline by two days because April 15 was a Sunday and the next day was Emancipation Day — a public holiday observed in the District.

Tuesday is also the deadline for Marylanders to file their state returns.
