(WJLA) - It's iPhone-mania all over again in the United States and around the world on Friday.

Friday marks the release date for both the new iPhone 5s and the lower-priced iPhone 5c, and Apple fans in nine countries lined up overnight to get their hands on the new phone.

The latest iterations of Apple's wildly popular phone come in gold, when it comes the 5s, and in a variety of pastel colors in the case of the 5c.

In addition to the new colors, the 5s includes a number of technological advancements, including a better camera, faster processor and a fingerprint reader. The 5c on the other hand, is aimed toward the lower-cost consumer and comes in colors including bright blue, pink and green.

Would-be buyers lined up early in both Bethesda and Clarendon to be among the first to get their hands on the new devices, but if you're averse to early mornings or lines, the phone also goes on sale online.

Prices for the iPhone 5s start at $199 with a two-year carrier contract, while the highest-end phone without a contract goes for $849. In contrast, the iPhone 5c starts at just $99 with a contract.

Each of the new phones comes installed with the latest operating system, iOS 7.
