Instagram, the popular photo sharing social media service that boasts 130 million users worldwide, will allow users to shoot video from within its app.
The announcement was made by Instagram co-founder Kevin Systrom at an event on the Facebook campus in Northern California.
Videos will be limited to 15 seconds long with in the application. That's nine more seconds than allowed by Vine, the short-video sharing app that integrates with Twitter.
Systrom said that the same staples of Instagram - beautiful photos, filters and a simple interface - will carry over to its video service.
"This is the same Instagram we all know and love, but it moves," Systrom said.
