(WJLA) - Pinterest, the online bulletin board that has become extremely popular worldwide, will start experimenting with ads on its platform.
In an email sent to uses Thursday night, Pinterest founder Ben Silbermann said that the platform is going to start experimenting with promoted pins from a select group of companies.
The move, Silbermann says, is in the interest of keeping the site up for the long term and that the promoted pins would be anything but garish.
"Some of you may be thinking, 'Oh great, here come the banner ads,'" Silbermann wrote. "We're determined to not let that happen."
He went on to say that promoted pins would be tasteful, transparent and relevant to users.
