(WJLA) - In Old Town, Alexandria, shoppers are trading long lines for the main drag and clogged lots for free parking.
Black Friday "boutique-style" is quickly becoming a new concept in the heart of Old Town. Up and down King Street, residents and out-of-towners alike are bustling along the brick, searching for a deal.
And you can thank Danielle Romanetti for contributing to that. Nearly five years ago, she opened Fibre Space, a small yarn shop. At the time, her new neighbors didn't buy into Black Friday.
"I wanted to have a big Black Friday sale," she said. "But they told me that Black Friday was the worst sales day ever."
So Romanetti put her own spin on things:
"We made a big point of advertising it to our customers and they turned out in droves. It was the biggest sales day of the year!"
Now, roughly 60 stores in Old Town are cashing in, and on the even of "Small Business Saturday," boutiques here say this is just the warm-up.
Let the season of spending begin!
