Student-athletes are getting an opportunity to get on-the-job training through an eight-week summer work program called the “InTERPship Academy” offered by the University of Maryland.

Ryan Brand, a junior quarterback for the Maryland Terrapins, participates in the academy and works in the university’s athletic department business office. Brand does filing and checks off purchasing and travel cards for coaches and staff members.

The academy provides professional development and career guidance for student-athletes who are often too busy for internship opportunities.

While most of the internships are offered in the UMD Athletic Department, other sites include a financial institution, a medical device company, and a public school system.
