INSPIRE: 17-year-old Maryland girl providing helping hand to needy in Sri Lanka
Seventeen-year-old Natasha Panduwawala is on a mission, preparing a shipment of walkers, canes and crutches.
Their final destination is more than 8,000 miles away in Sri Lanka.
Panduwawala, from Cordova, Maryland, has been to Sri Lanka many times to visit family, but last year it was different.
She shipped and hand delivered 215 items to people in need at a remote hospital on the island.
Panduwawala also spent time at an orphanage for girls, an experience she says she inspired her. During that trip she met a young girl named Randika confined to the floor her whole life in need of a special wheelchair.
The chair Randika would get was a keepsake a family friend had been holding onto since their son's death.
Panduwawala's hoping to collect 100 wheelchairs this year.
It could be a while before anything with four wheels fit in here.
