A local 12-year-old author is using sweet treats to teach her peers about diversity.

Lexi P.'s new book, "The Ice Cream Talk: Loving the Skin You’re In," uses her favorite frozen treat to spark a conversation about diversity.

“We all come from various backgrounds and represent different ‘flavors,’ but we have something in common—we’re all part of the human race,” the sixth-grader said. “No matter what flavor you are, it’s important that you love the skin you’re in and embrace and accept the things that make us different, whether it’s race, body type, or culture.”

This is the second book she's authored. Last year, she released a coloring book, “Curly Girls Love Your Curls,” which sparked a movement she calls "Curlanistas."
