Remedies for a hangover-free 2018

New Year’s Eve offers the chance to dance and drink our way to a clean slate, but the morning after can be far from refreshing. Nurse practitioner Cynthia Thurlow helped us avoid blaming it on the alcohol with hangover prevention tips. Follow Cynthia on Instagram.

How to address too much alcohol

  • Stay hydrated…lots of filtered water
  • EAT before you drink! Seems simple, but alcohol is absorbed directly across the small intestine, so if you buffer this with some food, you will not get tipsy, drunk or buzzed without some effort!
  • Stick to clear alcohols, namely vodka, gin or rum. We know that sugar in fruity drinks and the composition of beer is super inflammatory and harder to digest.
  • Use Liposomal glutathione 500-1000mg before bed. This is specifically formulated to avoid being broken down before it can be readily used by the body. I like Bullet proof brand or Dr. Amy Myer’s Brands
  • Use NAC 600mg before and after you have consumed alcohol.
  • Use Vitamin-C 1-3gm before and after you have consumed alcohol. It helps potentiate the effects of the NAC.
  • Use Magnesium - your body gets easily depleted in electrolytes, including magnesium and potassium with alcohol use. Even an Epsom salts bath will suffice. We also know that magnesium has amazing anti-oxidant properties

Hangover drink #1

  • 3 kale leaves
  • 2 green apples
  • ½ avocado
  • 1 kiwi
  • ½ banana
  • 3 ½ ounces pineapple
  • 3 ½ ounces peeled green grapes
  • 2 lemons
  • 1 handful fresh mint leaves
  • 4 to 5 tablespoons agave nectar
  • 1 ½ cups mineral water
  • Ice cubes, optional

Directions

  • Wash the kale leaves thoroughly and cut the hard stems out. Cut kale in short strips. Put in a blender.
  • Peel and cube the apples, avocado, kiwi and banana. Add to the blender along with the pineapple and grapes.
  • Blend the fruits and vegetables until chunky.
  • Squeeze lemons and put juice into the blender with the mint, agave, water and ice.
  • Continue blending until smooth.

  • Coconut water
  • Kombucha
  • Limes

Hangover drink #3

  • 2 oranges
  • 2 carrots
  • 2 celery sticks
  • 1 beet
  • 1 lemon
  • 1" of ginger
