7 ON YOUR SIDE Consumer Alert: 3 cars have easiest child safety seat installations

7 ON YOUR SIDE Consumer Alert: 3 cars have easiest child safety seat installations (ABC7)

There are few things more maddening than dealing with a difficult car seat while your difficult toddler is squirming in your arms.

But help has arrived.

SEVEN ON YOUR SIDE tested out the 2016 Toyota Prius with its newly-designed LATCH system. It was so easy, we could anchor in the front and tether in the back with one hand, meaning, you could conceivably have a free hand to hang on to your child.

The Prius, the 2016 Lexus RX, and the 2017 Audi Q7 got the top marks for ease of use, according to Arlington-based Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) which rated 170 models.

IIHS also published the worst vehicles for putting in car seats. Last year, when they first tested LATCH systems using volunteer parents, one mom broke down in tears of frustration.

We don’t know which car caused the emotional breakdown, but you might find it here on the bottom of IIHS’s list of the worst and best car LATCH systems.
