FAIRFAX, Va. (WJLA) – When a Virginia woman received what she considered to be an outrageous plumbing bill, she turned to 7 On Your Side.

Marisia Fleck says she knew she had a mess on her hands when her basement toilet began to overflow. She thought it was an emergency, so she went to the Yellow Pages to look for a plumber and found Plumbing and Bath Plus of Fairfax.

A plumber came and she says he told her he would charge her $45 to come and $45 to leave.

But after spending less than 20 minutes replacing a few parts—and getting Fleck to sign off on the work—he handed her a bill for $929.

7 On Your Side troubleshooter Horace Holmes spoke with other plumbing companies in the area. They said the parts are about $38 dollars and a job like that should cost no more than $300.

The manager at Plumbing and Bath Plus, who said he couldn't remember Fleck's case, promised he would look through his files and get back to 7 On Your Side. But so far, we haven't heard back.
